prof. Ludmil Angelov- to bułgarski pianista o międzynarodowej renomie, uznawany za jednego z najwybitniejszych współczesnych interpretatorów Fryderyka Chopina. Urodził się w Warnie, Bułgaria, w rodzinie muzyków bułgarsko-greckiego pochodzenia. Naukę gry na fortepianie rozpoczął w wieku sześciu lat, a edukację muzyczną kontynuował w Państwowej Akademii Muzycznej im. P. Vladigerova w Sofii, gdzie studiował pod kierunkiem Viktorii Spassovej, Ludmili Stojanowej oraz wybitnego pianisty i pedagoga Konstantina Stankovicha. 

Zdobył nagrody na konkursach międzynarodowych, m.in. w Senigallii (Włochy, 1976), Warszawie (Konkurs im. F. Chopina, 1985), Palm Beach International Competition (USA, 1990), Piano Masters (Monte Carlo, 1994) i World Piano Masters Tour (Francja, 1997).

Ludmil Angelov występował w największych salach koncertowych, takich jak Filharmonia Berlińska, Musikverein w Wiedniu, Concertgebouw w Amsterdamie, Pleyel i Gaveau w Paryżu, Teatro La Scala w Mediolanie, Lincoln Center w Nowym Jorku, Alte Oper we Frankfurcie, Herkulessaal w Monachium, KKL w Lucernie, Operze w Zurychu, Salle Garnier w Monte-Carlo, Palais des Beaux-Arts w Brukseli, Brucknerhaus w Linzu, Auditorio Nacional w Madrycie, L’Auditori w Barcelonie, Palau de la Música w Walencji, salach koncertowych konserwatoriów moskiewskiego i mediolańskiego, Filharmonii Narodowej w Warszawie, Sali KBS w Seulu.

W 1987 roku rozpoczął cykl dwunastu recitali, wykonując wszystkie utwory fortepianowe Chopina, co zostało wyróżnione tytułem "Młodego Muzyka Roku" w Bułgarii. Muzyka Chopina jest stałym elementem jego repertuaru. Uczestniczył także w najważniejszych festiwalach chopinowskich w Polsce, Belgii, Francji, Włoszech i innych krajach. Angelov jest autorem licznych nagrań, w tym albumu z Rondo i Wariacjami Chopina, który otrzymał Grand Prix du Disque przyznane przez Instytut Fryderyka Chopina w Warszawie. W 2016 roku, dla brytyjskiej wytwórni Hyperion, dokonał światowej premiery nagrania Koncertu fortepianowego op. 3 Moritza Moszkowskiego z BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

Ludmil Angelov prowadzi klasy mistrzowskie na Nowym Uniwersytecie Bułgarskim w Sofii jako honorowy profesor. W listopadzie 2011 r. otrzymał medal Gloria Artis przyznany przez polskie Ministerstwo Kultury za swój wkład w międzynarodową promocję muzyki polskiej. W 2015 roku uhonorowano go Nagrodą Wielką Miasta Warny za całokształt działalności artystycznej. W 2022 roku został mianowany Honorowym Obywatelem Sofii, a w 2023 roku otrzymał najwyższe odznaczenie Ministerstwa Kultury Bułgarii – Złoty Medal "Za Zasługi w Kulturze" .

Od 1992 r. mieszka w Toledo, gdzie jest dyrektorem artystycznym - założycielem Międzynarodowego Festiwalu Muzycznego. Jest także założycielem festiwalu Piano Extravaganza w Sofii.

Prof. Ludmil Angelov is a Bulgarian pianist of international renown, considered one of the greatest contemporary interpreters of Fryderyk Chopin. Born in Varna, Bulgaria, into a family of musicians of Bulgarian-Greek descent, he began playing the piano at the age of six. He continued his musical education at the P. Vladigerov State Academy of Music in Sofia, studying under the guidance of Viktoria Spassova, Ludmila Stojanova, and the renowned pianist and educator Konstantin Stankovich.

He has won prizes at international competitions, including in Senigallia (Italy, 1976), Warsaw (Chopin Competition, 1985), Palm Beach International Competition (USA, 1990), Piano Masters (Monte Carlo, 1994), and World Piano Masters Tour (France, 1997).

Ludmil Angelov has performed in the world’s most prestigious concert halls, such as the Berlin Philharmonie, Musikverein in Vienna, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Pleyel and Gaveau in Paris, Teatro La Scala in Milan, Lincoln Center in New York, Alte Oper in Frankfurt, Herkulessaal in Munich, KKL in Lucerne, Zurich Opera House, Salle Garnier in Monte-Carlo, Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, Brucknerhaus in Linz, Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, L'Auditori in Barcelona, Palau de la Música in Valencia, the Moscow and Milan conservatories, the National Philharmonic in Warsaw, and KBS Hall in Seoul.

In 1987, he began a cycle of twelve recitals performing all of Chopin's piano works, which earned him the title of "Young Musician of the Year" in Bulgaria. Chopin’s music is a constant part of his repertoire. He has also participated in major Chopin festivals in Poland, Belgium, France, Italy, and other countries. Angelov is the author of numerous recordings, including an album with Chopin’s Rondo and Variations, which received the Grand Prix du Disque from the Fryderyk Chopin Institute in Warsaw. In 2016, for the British label Hyperion, he gave the world premiere recording of Moszkowski’s Piano Concerto Op. 3 with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

Ludmil Angelov conducts master classes at the New Bulgarian University in Sofia, where he serves as an honorary professor. In November 2011, he was awarded the Gloria Artis medal by the Polish Ministry of Culture for his contribution to the international promotion of Polish music. In 2015, he was honored with the Grand Prize of the City of Varna for his lifelong artistic achievements. In 2022, he was named an Honorary Citizen of Sofia, and in 2023, he received the highest award from the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture, the Gold Medal "For Merits in Culture."

Since 1992, he has lived in Toledo, where he is the founder and artistic director of the International Music Festival. He is also the founder of the Piano Extravaganza festival in Sofia.
