The Court Ballet - „Cracovia Danza”

- Urban Institute of Culture in Cracow -

it is the only in Poland professional group of ancient and historical dances, established by Romana Agnel,  a talented dancer, choreographer and teacher.

The group of Ballet rescues from oblivion an important and beautiful part of the Polish and European cultural heritage, which is the dance and court culture. For many years she has been working on  reconstruction and restoration of the traditional dances and court ballets of different countries and eras. The final effect of the above-mentioned activities are the historical events from the Middle Ages to modern times, in which with equal reverence are reproduced choreographic arrangements, costumes and courtly customs. The perfectly elaborated dance steps, music and costumes (the vast majority is designed by Monika Polak-Luścińska), inscribed in the drama of the show are an excellent showcase for both ancient and contemporary Polish art and culture, thus recalling its prestigious position on the cultural map of Europe.

The Ballet's repertoire includes such performances as "Dances and having fun in the Middle Ages", "The Legend of Queen Jadwiga" by L. Rydel, "Chess" by J. Kochanowski, "Masquerade of Queen Bona", "La Fortuna - Lady with an Ermine", "The Judgement of Paris "by J. Locher," Sobieski and Marysieńka", "Old Polish Miniatures "," Poland-India: Conversations "," Dancing World of Chopin "," In the old movie theater ".  

B.D. „Cracovia Danza” thanks to the cooperation with high-class choreographers also specializes in the reconstruction of the old and traditional Polish dances.

After many years of activity the group has a reputation both in the country as well as abroad. Throughout the years it collaborated with such distinguished institutions as: the Grand Theatre - National Opera in Warsaw, the Warsaw Chamber Opera, Margrave's Opera House in Bayreuth, Royal Wawel Castles in Warsaw, Niepołomice, Warsaw National Philharmonic and Concert Halls across the country, the National and Historical Museum in Cracow, Academies of Music or Polish Institutes.

By conducting a broad educational activities the ballet enables the exchange of experiences between Polish and foreign artists, interested in historical dances as well as - the dissemination of knowledge about the art and courtly culture. It also accomplishes cultural events on a larger scale, and educational programs combining dance, history and literature from different eras.

Most created by B. D. "Cracovia Danza" performances and artistic projects  are implemented in collaboration with great musicians (including harpsichord players: Urszula Bartkiewicz, Elżbieta Stefańska, Kenneth Weiss) and the reputable early music ensembles, including: The Spirit of Gambo (Hannover, Germany), Il Tempo (Warsaw), Le Concert de l'Hostel Dieu (Lyon, France), La Grande Ecurie Et La Chambre De Roy (France), Ricercar Consort (Brussels, Belgium), Collegium marianum (Prague, Czech Republic), Consortium Sedinum (Szczecin), Ars Cantus (Wrocław), United Continuo Service (Germany), Intrada (Cracow) and Maria Pomianowska and Polish Ensemble (Warsaw).

Court Ballet "Cracovia Danza" is also - together with the "Ardente Sole" and the "The Villa Decius" Association - since 2000 the organizer recognized in Cracow calendar of cultural shows of this artistic event. It is the Court Dance Festival 'Cracovia Danza ", which is held yearly in August, in the capital of Malopolska. The court dance, theater and music presented in historic spaces of City, is the best proposition for tourists, residents of Cracow  and viewers of all ages.

            Through its artistic and educational activities the B.D. „Cracovia Danza” remains a unique phenomenon on a national scale the ambassador of culture and art of the Royal City of Cracow.
